Today as the traditional liturgy of the Roman rite enjoys its resurgence amongst Catholics, young and old, the need for a ceremonial manual
for the celebration of the traditional liturgy according to the liturgical books in use in 1962 is greater than ever. This volume is the
fourteenth revised, corrected and expanded edition, and is published to guide and to assist in celebrating the traditional liturgy today. The
ceremonies covered in this manual include pontifical, solemn and low Mass, Vespers, Holy Week and the liturgical years, the sacraments,
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, funerals, episcopal visitation and more. The standard ceremonial manual for the celebration
of the traditional Roman rite, revised to include corrections and material helpful for its celebration today, yet losing nothing
of the 12th (1962) edition.

Adrian Fortescue (1874-1923) was a Roman Catholic priest and Englishman who was an influential liturgist, artist, calligrapher, composer,
polyglot, amateur photographer, Byzantine scholar, and adventurer. He has been described by Michael Davies as, 'the greatest authority on the
liturgy of the Roman Rite the English speaking world has ever known'. Canon J.B.O'Connell (d. 1977). Ceremonial and rubrics were his life's
work and on the death of Adrian Fortescue in 1923, he was asked to prepare the third edition of this book. Over the next forty years he
prepared a further nine editions. Canon O'Connell was a secular priest of the Menevia Diocese. Dr Alcuin Reid is a former Benedictine monk.
He is a leading liturgy scholar and the author of The Organic Development of the Liturgy.

The best-known of Fr. Fortescue's publications during his lifetime was, Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described which he actually wrote
not out of academic interest but to raise funds for construction on his church. Fr. Fortescue was also an artist of considerable talent, especially
in the media of watercolor, drawing and calligraphy. He was also a recognized authority on heraldry, and his own designs were widely
admired in his day. A memorial exhibition of Adrian Fortescue's work was organized in the Letchworth Public Library in 1923.
